Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is in internationally recognised training course, designed to teach people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis. Everyone on an Adult MHFA course is taught a set of practical skills which enables them to support someone experiencing mental health issues.
Adult MHFA 2 day course
Our two day Adult MHFA course will enable you to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health issues, provide initial help and guide a person towards appropriate professional help. Once you have completed the two day course you will be able to say you are a Mental Health First Aider.
Programme structure – What would I learn?
The training has been designed to fit into four manageable sessions, each with a focus on how to apply Mental Health First Aid Skills.
Mental Health First Aid, mental health and depression
Depression (cont.) and suicidal crisis
Anxiety, personality disorders, eating disorders and self-harm
Psychosis, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder
The course usually take place over two full days and the sessions are a mixture of presentations, discussion and group work activities. Everyone who attends the course will receive a copy of the MHFA manual and workbook, which are both excellent support resources. When you have completed the course you will also receive a certificate to confirm you are trained as a Mental Health Frist Aider.
Adult MHFA Lite
Our Adult MHFA Lite course is an introductory three hour mental health awareness course. The session will be a mix of presentations, group interaction, and activities. You will receive an Adult MHFA Lite manual that you can take away with you at the end of the session and an attendance certificate from MHFA England.
Programme Structure – What would I learn?
By the end of the course you’ll be able to:
Define mental health and some common mental health issues
Identify stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health issues
Relate to people’s experiences and support people in distress
Look after your own mental health.
Is it for you?
The courses are for everyone aged 16 and upwards and you don’t need any qualifications or experience in mental health to take part. The skills you acquire from an Adult MHFA courses can be used to support everyone – friends, family, work colleagues and members of your community. The courses can be quite emotive in nature, so it is important to be aware that is could evoke some emotional feelings. Our instructors provide a safe learning environment and are trained to support you throughout the course.
